Qualifications

  1. Qualified to teach the following courses
    • First-year courses: "Introductory Seminar," "Reading/Writing Skills", "Introduction to Literature, Culture, and History"
    • Second-year and above: "Literature, Culture, and History," "Advanced Thematic Reading," "Reading/Writing Skills for Academic Purposes"
    • Third-year and above: "American/British Literature/Culture," "American/British Society and History," "Global Literature," "Workshop on Literature, Culture, and History"
  2. Academic Credentials: A PhD degree is preferred, but those without a PhD who have a strong research record will also be considered.
  3. Teaching Experience: University-level teaching experience (or equivalent) in related subjects
  4. Language of Instruction: Ability to teach university-level courses in English
  5. Language Proficiency: High-level proficiency in English and Japanese is required; however, native fluency in either language is not a requirement.

Courses and Duties

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching five or more courses per week.
  • In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will be expected to contribute actively to departmental, faculty, and university administrative responsibilities, including service on entrance examination committees.

Terms of Employment:

  1. Type of Employment and Retirement: Tenured position with no fixed term of appointment and eligibility for promotion until the mandatory retirement age of 70
  2. Teaching Assignment: Minimum of 5 classes (koma) per week
  3. Workdays: Minimum of 3 days per week
  4. Working Hours: Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work applies
  5. Salary: In accordance with the university's salary regulations. The following are model monthly salaries; actual annual salary will vary depending on professional experience, duties, number of dependents, etc.
    • Professor (age 45): ?609,900/month
    • Associate Professor (age 35): ?462,100/month
    • Full-time Lecturer (age 30): ?383,500/month
  6. Bonuses: In accordance with the university's salary regulations
  7. Commuting Expenses: Reimbursed according to university regulations (with an upper limit)
  8. Allowances: Additional class allowance, entrance exam and other work-related allowances, dependent allowance, housing allowance, etc.
  9. Research Support
    • Private office provided
    • Individual research allowance provided (?425,000 per year)
    • Opportunities for sabbatical and special research leave (application and approval required)
    • Publication subsidies and other research grants available (application and approval required)
  10. Insurance: Full benefits including enrollment in social insurance (Japan Private School Mutual Aid), workers' compensation, and employment insurance
  11. Labor Union (membership is voluntary)
  12. Other: To prevent passive smoking, designated smoking areas are fully separated from other campus facilities.

  3. A Photocopy of your Most Advanced Degree (e.g., PhD certificate)
  4. Three Major Publications
    • Submit PDF files for journal articles or chapters.
    • Submit one original copy for each book publication.
  5. Abstracts of Three Major Publications
    • Provide a summary for each of the three major publications:
        For works written in English: approximately 800 characters in Japanese
        For works written in Japanese: approximately 600 words in English
  6. Please explain how your scholarship will enhance our students' education and further nurture their intellectual development. Your response should not exceed the length of one A4-page.
  7. "Introduction to Literature, Culture, and History" Syllabus, 14-week course. Note that the course is taught in Japanese.

    • In principle, submitted materials will not be returned. However, if you would like your book(s) to be returned, please enclose either a Letter Pack or a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Deadline to Submit Application Materials

  • Application materials must be received no later than July 31, 2025.
  • Please submit all materials online via theJREC-IN Portal website.

Selection Process

  1. First Stage
    • Document screening
  2. Second Stage
    • The interview is scheduled to take place in mid-September.
    • All candidates are asked to deliver a mock lesson in either English or Japanese, however you may be asked to speak both at some point during the lesson.
    • Travel and accommodation expenses for the interview will be the responsibility of the applicant.

Notification of Results

Applicants will be notified of the result by email once the selection process has been completed. All personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than the selection process.
